From the Principal

Welcome to the 2006-07 school year! Our staff at Grayside Elementary is excited to be working with the students, parents and community to do all that we can to help our kids reach their full potential.

The Mauston School District created two goals that together we will strive to accomplish for our students. These goals are:

Goal 1: All students are performing at or above the state average in core instructional areas.

Goal 2: Graduation rate will be at or above the state average.

One of our major focuses within these goals is our math instruction. Teachers met last spring and one idea that came from those discussions was the fact that parent volunteering in our classrooms during math blocks would be very beneficial to our students. If you are interested in assisting at school as a volunteer, please contact me at 847-5616 ext 2249. Open math times include: 8:15-9:30, 9:45-11:00 and 12:30-1:45.

I would also like to encourage parents to attend a PTC (Parents and Teachers for Children) meeting. These meetings will be held on the first Monday each month at 6:30 here at Grayside. Many important school issues and services are prepared for our students through this organization.

Lastly, we will continue work on our anti-bullying program. We feel it is important to set an environment in which all students feel safe. Our students sign a bullying contract that is posted in the classrooms, we have a bullying box that students may use to report bullying and we have a school pledge that is posted in the entry way of our school. Also, be watching for other events related to this program throughout the school year.
