Attendance Guidelines Regular attendance is a critical factor in academic success. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance that absences and tardiness be kept to a minimum. By state statute, students with five or more unexcused absences in one semester will be deemed to be “habitual truants,” and their attendance records will be forwarded to the district attorney for prosecution. Both student and parent may be cited.
It is very important to notify the school office of the reason for all absences. If the office does not receive an excuse from the parent (by note or telephone), an unexcused absence will be recorded. You may send a note to school with your child or leave a message on our attendance line. To access the attendance line, call 847-5616. Press 2 for Grayside, followed by 2 for attendance. Absences will not be excused without a reason.
Your support in helping your child establish a pattern of regular attendance is appreciated. Please contact Elementary Guidance Counselor Cathy Hines at 847-5616, extension 2251, if the school can be of assistance regarding attendance concerns. |

MAPS Program Students at Grayside will be participating in our district MAPS program in October. MAPS (Measures of Academic Progress) are state-aligned computerized adaptive tests that accurately reflect the instructional level of each student . These tests provide highly accurate results that can be used to diagnose instructional needs and monitor academic growth over time.
Each homeroom will be taking a total of three tests in reading and math. The tests will be held in our computer labs in 60-75 minute blocks with no more than one test being taken on a given school day. Our MAPS window runs from October 9-18. This program will take place again in the spring to measure progress students have made over the course of the academic year. Additional information will be distributed the week of October 2.
